A wasp nest in the eaves, the loft, a bird box or the ground? We treat the nest so the colony dies off, usually within a day or two, without you getting close to it.

Is it wasps or bees?

Wasps are bright yellow and black, with a narrow waist and very little hair, and their nests look like grey papier-mâché. Honeybees are browner and slightly hairy. Bumblebees are large, round and fluffy. We treat wasp nests. Bees are different, see below.

Where wasps nest

Common places are roof spaces and lofts, under eaves, fascias and soffits, in air bricks and wall cavities, in sheds and garages, in bird boxes and hedges, and in holes in the ground. You'll often see a steady stream of wasps flying in and out of one small gap.

How we treat a nest

We apply an insecticide dust at the nest or its entrance. Returning wasps carry it into the nest and the colony collapses, usually within 24 to 48 hours. You may see a few stragglers for a day or so afterwards. Nests in lofts, eaves and high walls are treated from inside the roof space or with extension equipment, so most jobs don't need scaffolding.

The dead nest usually doesn't need removing. Wasps don't reuse old nests, and taking one out of a roof or wall often causes more disruption than it's worth. If it's somewhere you'd rather it went, such as a shed, it can be taken away once it's dead.

What it costs

Treating a wasp nest in the UK typically costs £80 to £200 in 2026, outside London. Ground-level nests are at the lower end, at about £80 to £120, and nests high in the eaves are more like £130 to £200. Extra nests treated on the same visit are usually about £30 to £60 each (Fantastic Services). You get a fixed price before we start.

Don't do this

  • Don't block the entrance. The wasps will chew another way out, sometimes into the house.
  • Don't spray the nest at close range or try to knock it down. Wasps defend the nest and can sting repeatedly.
  • Keep children and pets away from the area until it's been treated.

Bees

We don't destroy honeybees. If you have a honeybee swarm, a local beekeeper may collect it: the British Beekeepers Association has a swarm collector finder. Bumblebee nests are usually best left alone. They're small, rarely aggressive and die off naturally by the end of the summer.

Questions people ask

How quickly does wasp nest treatment work?

Usually within 24 to 48 hours, as wasps returning to the nest carry the insecticide in. You might see a few for a day or so afterwards.

Does the nest need removing afterwards?

Usually not. Once the colony is dead, the nest won't be used again. Removing a nest from a roof space or wall often means more disruption than leaving it.

When is wasp season?

Queens start nests in spring and the nests grow through the summer. Late summer, around August and September, is when wasps are most numerous and most likely to sting. Nests die off over the winter.

Will they come back next year?

Not to the same nest, but a new queen may pick a similar spot. Once the old nest is dead, blocking gaps under the eaves or in air bricks over the winter helps.
