Doncaster Council pest control, or a private pest controller?

City of Doncaster Council runs its own pest control service for homes and businesses. Here's how it compares with a private pest controller, so you can choose. To be clear: we're a private company, not part of the council.

What the council offers

City of Doncaster Council provides a pest control service for domestic, commercial and industrial premises. You can request a visit for your house or flat through an online form on the council's pest control page. Businesses use a separate form and are charged for the work.

The council's pest control pages don't list its prices or which pests it treats, so check both before you book, along with how soon it can visit.

Council fees vary a lot

Council pest control charges differ widely around the country. In 2025 to 2026, for example, Lancaster City Council charged £91 for rats or mice, including up to five visits, and £64.50 for a wasp nest. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea charged £258.80 for rats or mice and £101.90 for a wasp nest (Whito, 2026). Some councils have stopped offering pest control altogether.

When the council may suit you

  • The council treats the pest you have, and its price and waiting time work for you
  • You don't need the ways in proofed as part of the job

When a private pest controller may suit you

  • You need someone quickly, for example a wasp nest by a door or rats in the kitchen
  • It's a job councils often don't cover, like bird proofing, solar panel mesh or mole catching
  • You want the ways in found and blocked, not just the pests treated
  • You run a business and need routine visits with written records

If you rent

If you rent from the council, your home is managed by St Leger Homes of Doncaster, so report the problem to them as your landlord. If you rent privately, tell your landlord or letting agent in writing. Pests that get in because of the building's condition, like damaged drains, broken air bricks or gaps around pipes, are usually the landlord's responsibility to fix.

Whichever you choose

Ask what the price includes, how many visits it covers, what products will be used around children and pets, and whether the ways in will be proofed. Our guide to choosing a pest controller has a full checklist.

Questions people ask

Is Doncaster Council pest control free?

The council's website doesn't say. Its business form says commercial customers are charged, but domestic prices aren't listed on its pest control pages, so ask the council when you book.

Are you part of Doncaster Council?

No. Doncaster Pest Company is a private business, a trading name of London Digital Services Ltd. We're not connected to the council.

Who deals with rats on public land or in the sewers?

Report rats on council land to the council. Problems in the public sewers are the water company's responsibility, which in Doncaster is Yorkshire Water.
