Bird and pigeon control in Doncaster

Pigeons nesting under solar panels, birds in the eaves, or droppings building up on a ledge? Most bird problems are solved by proofing, done properly and within the law.

What the law says

All wild birds, their eggs and their active nests are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Feral pigeons can only be controlled for specific reasons allowed under Natural England's general licences, such as protecting public health or safety, and only where non-lethal methods aren't effective. In practice, most bird control is about stopping birds landing, roosting and nesting, rather than removing them.

Common problems

  • Pigeons nesting under solar panels, damaging cables and blocking gutters
  • Birds roosting on ledges, signs and roofs, leaving droppings that stain and can be slippery
  • Birds getting into lofts through gaps at the eaves or broken roof tiles
  • Starlings or sparrows nesting in soffits and gaps under tiles

How we deal with it

  • Solar panel mesh, clipped around the edge of the panels to stop pigeons getting underneath, without drilling the panels.
  • Netting for balconies, courtyards, loading bays and roof areas.
  • Spikes and wires on ledges, signs and beams where birds land.
  • Proofing gaps at the eaves and under tiles, once any nest is no longer active.
  • Clearing droppings and nesting material safely before proofing goes in.

Timing

Because active nests are protected, proofing is easiest outside the main nesting season, which runs roughly from March to August. Feral pigeons can nest all year round, so we check for eggs or young before any work goes in.

What it costs

Bird control in the UK typically costs £150 to £500 or more per job in 2026, and proofing a house is about £150 to £600 (Fantastic Services). Solar panel mesh depends on the number of panels and access to the roof. You get a fixed price once we've seen it.

Questions people ask

Can you remove a pigeon nest?

Not while it has eggs or young in it, unless a specific licence allows it. Once the nest is empty, it can be cleared and the area proofed so they can't come back.

Will a plastic owl or a spinning deterrent work?

Birds usually get used to them within days. Physical proofing like mesh, netting or spikes is what lasts.

Do you deal with seagulls?

Gulls are protected too, and some species need an individual licence before any control, so proofing roofs and ledges is usually the answer.
